St Margaret's has a long history of swimming success. High participation and interest in this sport has resulted in St Margaret's becoming one of the most successful schools within the QGSSSA competition. In 2015 St Margaret's achieved:
- 2nd Place Sheena Dyason Percentage Cup
- 2nd Place 15 Years Division
The swimming program is run by Kevin Sargent. Kevin is a highly experienced coach with the following credentials:
- 1980-1987 Head Lifeguard Noosa Shire
- 1987-1993 Opened and was Head Coach at the first pool in Noosa Shire
- 1993-2000 Head Age Group Coach at Nudgee College
- 2000-Present Head Coach of St Margaret's
- Director of Australian Swim Camps which are run throughout Australia
Kevin has also coached professional swimmers: Stephanie Rice, Brenton Rickard, Shane Kennedy, Emily Seebohm, Bronte Barratt and Nathan Rickard.
Each year 15 students are required per age group to field a full team. Preliminary team grading takes place in Term 4 with the QGSSSA team being selected just prior to the competition, from competitors who have participated in the Friday evening warm up meets.
Training commences Term 4. Warm up competitions are held throughout Term 1, with a camp at Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre in January consisting of thee days of specialist training. Training sessions take place every morning and afternoon except Wednesday afternoon of Terms 4 and 1 until the QGSSSA competition. It is expected that all squad members attend three sessions per week, incorporating the compulsory session on Wednesday.

Competition and Venues
The QGSSSA competition is held in March at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre at Chandler. Students compete in lead-up competition meets on Friday evenings in Term 1.
Training can be conducted in school health and physical education/training swimsuit. The competition swimsuit is required for the QGSSSA competition. Swimming caps are provided.
