Scholarships and Bursaries

Applications for our 2025 scholarship round (Years 7 to 11) will open on Monday 25 September 2023 and will close midnight AEDST Sunday 4 February 2024. Applicants will be required to sit the ACER Scholarship Exam on Saturday 24 February 2024. Please read more about all the scholarship categories below and from Monday 25 September onwards click here to register. Our scholarship and bursary program is designed to identify and celebrate girls who have strengths and expertise in a variety of areas, providing opportunities for girls to develop and be challenged in a nurturing environment.


St Margaret’s offers part remission of fees to students who meet the standards set out for each individual scholarship category and has a strong commitment to assisting students who would greatly benefit from a St Margaret’s education, but who, without financial aid, would be unable to attend.  

Scholarships are not open to students currently attending St Margaret's (apart from the Per Volar Sunata Academic Scholarship).   

Scholarships and bursaries are not open to international students.


St Margaret’s offers seven categories of scholarships/bursaries:

  • Academic Scholarships
  • 'Per Volar Sunata' Academic Scholarship (only available to current students moving from Year 6 to Year 7)
  • Mathematics Scholarships
  • Arts Performance Scholarships (Music, Visual Arts, Cultural)
  • Sports Performance Scholarships
  • Needs-Based Boarding Bursaries
  • Needs-Based Bursaries


Academic Scholarships

  • For students who have demonstrated a high achievement in academics and also possess qualities compatible with the values and ethos of the School.
  • Applicants for an Academic Scholarship are required to sit the ACER Scholarship Exam as well as complete the Academic Scholarship Application Form.
  • Applicants are shortlisted according to their academic performance in the ACER Exam.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants who would greatly benefit from a St Margaret's education, but who, without financial assistance, would be unable to attend.

'Per Volar Sunata' Academic Scholarship

The  'Per Volar Sunata' Academic Scholarship is an academic scholarship awarded to a current Year 6 St Margaret's student, moving into Year 7. Applicants for this scholarship must sit the ACER exam and complete the application form below.

Mathematics Scholarship

  • The Mathematics Scholarship is only available to students not currently enrolled at St Margaret's.
    It is open for students who have demonstrated a high achievement in academics, especially Mathematics, and also possess qualities compatible with the values and ethos of the School.
  • Applicants for a Mathematics Scholarship are required to sit the ACER Scholarship Exam as well as complete the Mathematics Scholarship Application Form.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants who would greatly benefit from a St Margaret's education, but who, without financial assistance, would be unable to attend.

Arts Performance Scholarships

Standards and requirements for students applying for an Arts Performance Scholarship (Music, Visual Arts, Cultural) can be found on the Arts Performance Scholarship Application Form. Please note detailed minimum standards for musical instruments are the AMEB/equivalent of:

Strings Viola/Violin 6
  Cello/Double Bass 4
Woodwind Flute 4
  Clarinet, Saxophone, Oboe, Bassoon 3
 Brass Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba 3

 

Piano

  • Applicants for an Arts Performance Scholarship must complete and submit the Arts Performance Scholarship Application Form and an extensive portfolio of work or recording of drama/acting performance.
  • Applications for Performance Scholarships are also required to sit the ACER Scholarship Examination, with the understanding that their results may be used as the academic component of their application.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants who would greatly benefit from a St Margaret's education, but who, without financial assistance, would be unable to attend.

Sports Performance Scholarships

  • Students applying for a Sports Performance Scholarship are required to have achieved State or National level in their chosen sport.
  • Applicants for a Sports Performance Scholarship must complete and submit the Sports Performance Scholarship Application Form.
  • Applications for Sports Performance Scholarships are also required to sit the ACER Scholarship Examination with the understanding that their results may be used as the academic component of their application.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants who would greatly benefit from a St Margaret's education, but who, without financial assistance, would be unable to attend.

Needs-Based Boarding Bursaries

Needs-based boarding bursaries are available to students experiencing financial hardship, who have exhibited strong academic results, possess qualities compatible with the values and ethos of St Margaret's and whose home address is more than 200km from St Margaret’s.

Scholarship Application Process

  • With the exception of the Needs-based Boarding Bursary and Needs-based Bursary, all scholarship applicants must register for the ACER Scholarship Examination as well as submit a St Margaret's Scholarship Application Form (applicable to the scholarship category).
  • When awarding scholarships, financial need is taken into consideration. All applicants are strongly recommended to complete the Financial Assistance Scholarship Form and submit it with your scholarship application.
  • Applicants are shortlisted proceeding the ACER Examination and are invited to be interviewed by a member of the Educational Leadership Team.
  • All students will be notified whether they are successful or not in being granted an interview in April/May of that year.
  • Following the interview and a review of all information a Letter of Offer from the Principal will be made and forwarded to families.
  • To confirm acceptance of an offer the signing of the official Written Agreement and other relevant forms is required with the payment of the non-refundable confirmation fee (refer to fee schedule).
