The Reverend Canon Sarah Plowman

BAppSci (QUT), GradDipEd (QUT), BTh (CSU)
At St Margaret’s 1989-1990

The Reverend Canon Sarah Plowman attended St Margaret’s as a boarder after receiving an academic scholarship.  A keen member of the boarding house, Sarah received the Anna O’Sullivan Bursary for the highest academic achievement by a boarder on her completion of Year 12 in 1990. Sarah was influenced deeply by the prayerful life of the Sisters while a member of the St Margaret’s boarding community.

Before entering the ordained ministry, Sarah completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physics) before turning to teaching as her chosen profession, but soon made the move into ministry, prompted by the insistent call of God. After two years working in Youth Ministry, her career path took her to the Gold Coast where School Chaplaincy emerged as the right ‘fit’ for her talents. Ordained a priest in the Anglican Church in 2005, Sarah was the Chaplain and Director of Mission at Cannon Hill Anglican College for almost 11 years where she had a great passion for enabling students and staff to engage intelligently with the Christian faith and the Holy Scriptures.

In January 2020, The Reverend Canon Sarah Plowman commenced her new role as Diocesan Director of Ordinands and Vocations for Anglican Church Southern Queensland. This role enabled her to support and empower church communities to develop strong and vibrant ministry which engages and inspires young adults. In 2021, Sarah moved into the role of Director of Discernment and Formation, bringing fresh ideas, new systems and rigorous processes to the selection and formation of clergy for the Diocese of Brisbane.

Sarah has since accepted an invitation from the Archbishop of Brisbane, The Most Reverend Jeremy Greaves KCSJ, to be an Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Brisbane and to serve as Bishop for the Northern Region.
