Dr Alex Markwell is an emergency physician at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) and Metro North Virtual Emergency Departments. After graduating from St Margaret’s in 1995, she undertook a Bachelor of Science (1998) and then a Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (2002) at the University of Queensland. She completed her post-graduate specialist training at the RBWH and was admitted as a Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine in 2011.

Alex was elected by her peers to the role of President of the Australian Medical Association Queensland (2012-13) and in 2014 was honoured with a Distinguished Young Alumnus Award by the University of Queensland.  She was also admitted to the AMA Roll of Fellows in 2014 in recognition of her contribution to the profession. She was Chair of the Queensland Clinical Senate (2019-2022) and heavily involved in the COVID-19 pandemic response.

Dr Markwell has a strong interest in clinical education and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and an experienced non-executive director.
