At St Margaret’s 1948-1953
Mary Magee (nee Rogers) was one of the first women to build a career in pharmacy in Queensland. Following her graduation from St Margaret’s, Mary attended the Central Technical College graduating from pharmacy in 1955.
She became an owner of her first pharmacy by the age of 23. Her career included being elected to the Pharmaceutical Society of Queensland in 1976, the first woman pharmacist to be appointed to the Pharmacy Board of Queensland in 1988 and QLD Telstra Businesswoman of the Year in 1998.
In 2000 Mary was honoured by the Queensland University of Technology receiving the Outstanding Alumni Award for Science and an Excellence for Contribution to the Community award.
In 2007, Mary became a Member of the Order of Australia for her services to pharmacy, and to the community, particularly through roles supporting the advancement of women.
Mary received an honorary doctorate of the Queensland University of Technology in 2008.
Mary has owned five pharmacies around Brisbane including Alexandra Pharmacy in Wickham Terrace, The Mill Pharmacy in Watkin’s Medical Centre and the Transit Centre Pharmacy.
She has served on several public forums including a some 30-year involvement with Zonta International and a period holding the highest office as International President from 2000-2002. She has also assisted with a variety of community organisations including the Red Cross, Brain Foundation, Breast Cancer Association and the Premier’s Council for Women.
