Isabella Harte wins local sports star award

Year 8 student Isabella Harte has won the City North News Junior Sports Star award at the Quest Local Sports Stars awards night held at the Queensland Cricketers Club.

The award tops off a string of achievements for Isabella this year including placing first in the 1500m and third in the 800m events at the Queensland Athletics Championships back in March and winning both the 1500m and 3000m national titles in her age group at the National Track and Field Championships in April.

In August, Isabella took to the podium as national champion for the third time this year. She competed at the National Cross Country Championships in Wollongong where she successfully defended her Australian title by winning the Under 16 years Girls 4km, becoming the second only female in history to win the U14 and U16 titles in consecutive years. She also won gold in the individual teams’ event and relay.

She also won the 10km Brisbane marathon open women and came first in her age group in the 10km Gold Coast marathon. Just this week, Isabella also won the 3000m and 1500m events at the Queensland School Sport Track & Field State Championships.

Isabella said “I felt very humbled and surprised to receive the award as I knew I was among nominees who are all very dedicated and accomplished athletes.

“This award will encourage me to keep training hard and performing my best so I can continue to achieve my goals for the future. It also makes me appreciate the team effort that helps support me including my family, coaches and fellow athletes who cheer me on,” said Isabella.

Isabella’s next big race will be at the School Sport Track and Field nationals in Perth at the end of this year where she will compete in the 3000m and 1500m events.

Congratulations on your award, Isabella!
