Giving Day

On Thursday 20 May, St Margaret’s held its second annual Giving Day appeal.

In just 24 hours, 485 donors, supported by matching donors who doubled donations, raised $239,290 for the Every Girl, Every Opportunity appeal.

Funds raised will go towards several planned building and refurbishment projects, ensuring the built environment optimises learning opportunities and to the Scholarship Fund, which will give some girls the opportunity of a St Margaret’s education they never thought they could have.

We truly appreciate everyone in the St Margaret’s community who supported this year’s appeal and whose gift will help us give every St Margaret’s girl every opportunity.

Students celebrated Giving Day with their Houses, enjoying morning tea and lunchtime activities, including a coin drive, dance off and sausage sizzle. Each House rallied together, in the spirit of the fun competition, watching team tallies climb as parents and Old Girls supported their own or their daughter’s House.

For the second consecutive year, Kendall House topped the Giving Day ladder with a total of $35,912 raised by 46 donors, followed by Tennyson with a total of $31,114 raised by 47 donors.

St Margaret’s Acting Principal Ms Karen Gorrie acknowledged the community for their support.

“We are tremendously grateful to our community for their generosity on this year’s Giving Day. Thank you to everyone who donated to the campaign, which will make a huge difference to St Margaret’s students and the school’s learning facilities.

“In 1895, the Sisters of the Society of the Sacred Advent established St Margaret’s to give girls the opportunity to be educated – to give them an empowered future that could contribute to the common good of society.

“Their work continues to this day and is reflected in our mission to prepare girls to become “confident, compassionate, capable women able to contribute to a global community”.

“This appeal reflected the Sisters’ enduring ambition and will ensure their legacy is continued for today’s and future generations of St Margaret’s students,” Ms Gorrie said.
