St Margaret's named innovative school

In 2020, St Margaret’s developed a strategic intent for an envisioned future – a compelling picture of success that began: “By the end of 2025, St Margaret’s will be known as an innovative school…”.

This vision has guided and inspired the teaching and learning programs and initiatives at St Margaret’s to remain at the forefront in education and has also led to the school being recognised as a 2025 5 Star Innovative School by The Educator.

St Margaret’s is recognised for its innovative, strategic yet measured approach to the epoch of AI which is enhancing learning and preparing students for an AI-enabled future.

Throughout the course of 2025, the school launched three innovations in the integration of AI. The first, an AI Student Education Plan, provides guardrails for students to use selected AI platforms ethically and responsibly.  

The second, a Staff AI Usage Policy, establishes guidelines for the responsible, human-centred and ethical use of AI tools by staff members to enhance teaching, learning and administrative functions while maintaining the school’s commitment to academic integrity, data privacy and student wellbeing.

Thirdly, AI Champions have been appointed to support both teaching and support staff in building their AI literacy.

Crucially, St Margaret’s approach to the adoption of AI sits alongside an enhanced focus on human-centred education and the development of students’ attributes, including empathy, creativity, curiosity, connection and collaboration, preparing them to meet the challenges and opportunities impacting all aspects of their lives in the age of AI.

St Margaret’s Principal Ros Curtis AM said to be recognised as an Innovative School is a reflection on the school’s dedicated staff who are committed to innovation and futures thinking.
