About Clare

Clare is the owner of The Fitting Room on Edward and The Modern Gentry as well as author of The Suit Book - Everything you need to know about wearing a suit.

A second generation family business, The Fitting Room has been providing premium clothing alterations and custom tailoring for over 23 years. After a short career as a pharmacist, Clare left her profession to take over the family business. She has since grown The Fitting Room into Queensland’s largest alterations provider with clients all over Australia.

At The Fitting Room, her team styles and alters more than 50,000 suits and 300 wedding dresses each year. After working with 10,000s of clients, she has discovered the link between confidence and dressing well.

Clare overcame racial and social prejudices, adopting innovative approaches and was able to scale the family business. She has revolutionised how people shop and wear clothing in what was once a very traditional industry with low social value. Her clients are conscious of the importance of quality slow fashion, appreciate the luxury of a customised clothing service, and understand how the correct fit can transforms how you feel.

Clare sits on the board as the Membership Chair at Entrepreneurs’ Organization Queensland. In 2017, she won the Lord Mayor’s multicultural Young Business Person Award, Small Business Champion Award in Fashion, and a special mention in the Lord Mayor’s Business Innovation Award. In 2019, Clare took to the stage at City Hall to perform at Dancing CEOs in front of 1,000 people, and raised over $21,000 for Women’s Legal Service.
